Tom Ford Perfume - Black Orchid
My Mum actually nabbed this for a huge bargain. She found a few bottles stocked a Priceline (which isn't a normal occurrence) and saw a sticker showing a huge markdown. She took it to the counter and it turned out that sticker was suppose to placed elsewhere, but because it had been on the perfume, essentially advertising it as that price, they had to give it to her at about half the price it normally was. My Mum has been wearing Tom Ford for a while, and she picked up this exact scent a little while ago, but in a bigger bottle. I actually love the smell of this one. It has a much more sophisticated and grown-up scent to it, but every time I'm wearing it and around someone they always compliment me on how good I smell - probably the best sign that you can get that you're onto a winner. It isn't cheap, but if you can ever grab some while it's on sale, I would highly recommend.

    T2 Teamaker

I have been using this baby non-stop this month, multiple times a day. In between drinking my new favourite Peppermint Tea (see next) and my Skinny Coffee Club detox coffee, this thing never get a break. This will get you one full cup of whatever you happen to be brewing, and my favourite thing about it is, once you're ready to serve, you just pick the whole thing up, rest the bottom of it on the top of your cup and it will dispense. Super easy.

T2 Just Peppermint Loose Leaf Tea

I think this has to be the thing I was the most obsessed with this month. I have been drinking this almost every day, twice a day, morning and night. I never use to be that big into herbal teas, but lately I was dying to get myself some peppermint tea, of course the first place I thought to go was T2. I could not recommend this stuff enough. I just pop a heaped teaspoon into my cup, chuck in some boiling water, let it sit until all the leaves have settled to the bottom and then for another few minutes more, and you're good to go. It's so refreshing and warming and I love how clean it leaves my mouth feeling. Man I'm about ready to go for a T2 shopping spree after all this talk about them.

    Beauty Essentials Face Cleanser

I love trying new skincare, so when I was in need of a new face cleanser this month I decided to try this one out. For me this was one that took getting use to. I picked up one that claimed to foam up, because I normally like that kind, however I wouldn't say it foams up all that much. When I use my face cleansing brush I can get a decent foam going, but otherwise it's nothing to crazy. This made me think I was going to hate it, but I changed my mind after I washed it off. My face ends up feeling so squeaky clean, yet not dry and void of all moisture which some cleansers can do. This is one I much prefer to use with a cleansing brush than hands, but for the cheap price point it will leave you feeling nice and clean.

Impressed Juice - Sunny Side Up

Does anyone else can random juice cravings at times? Normally I fulfil this by just picking up a carton of apple juice, but I decided to try something a bit different. I headed to the cold section of my local Woolworths and spotted this amazingness. Yes, the packaging 100% sucked me in, but the product inside is just as good as it looks on the outside. I've only tried this one flavour, 'Sunny Side Up', but I'm keen to try some others. This flavour in particular tastes a lot like orange juice, but like real orange juice, like orange juice that you've just squeezed directly from the fruit into your mouth. I'm hoping they launch an online shop soon that lets you buy packs of these, because I would 100% be down for that.

    Seed Coat
I have never been so warm in my life, and I managed to nab this coat for a serious bargain. My Mum and I actually spotted this coat in David Jones around a month ago and thought it looked so beautiful! It is normally a $200 coat though so we weren't about to grab it on a whim. However the other day while shopping, I was trying on a coat in ICE Fashion and just wasn't feeling it so Mum said we should just go try on this baby anyway. As soon as I put this one I knew it was the one. At that time there was I think a 35% off sale, or something like that, but when we took it to the counter it came out ever cheaper. We didn't say anything and left, but after checking later we realised that it was 35% off an already reduced price, so we managed to nab it for only $90, which was only around $20 more than the ICE coat I had just tried on. I think there's a sale on at the moment and it's even cheaper, so now is the time to buy if you're considering. Excuse the stock photos, exams are currently looming and it's just generally the shit end of semester at the moment, so taking time to grab a nicely styled outfit photo to show of this beauty just wasn't going to happen. P.S the hood is detachable.

If there's one thing that can completely change the look and feel of your makeup with a single application, that's lip colour.

This post is actually a collaboration with two other awesome bloggers who are from my area of Newcastle, NSW; Aussie Beauty Talk and Permanent Procrastination. So head over to their page's to check out their posts and discover some more awesome lip product recommendations. But for right now, here are my top three!

I'm not really one to wear bold, darker colours often, but I do find myself gravitating towards them in the store, and absolutely love the look they give when I do find the confidence to wear them.

NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil - Train Bleu

I had been lusting to get my hands on another NARS product, though I had no idea what I wanted. When I was in Sydney and I found a NARS counter, as soon as I saw these lip pencils I had to have one. I didn't have anything else like it, all my other lip products were your normal lipsticks, and as I said I'm draw to bold, dark colours. This one can get a bit patchy after being worn for a couple of hours, but I'm yet to get my hands on a matching lip liner, and I think that could make a major difference.

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick - Violet Frenzy

When I purchased this one, it was my first lipstick in purchase in an extremellyyyyyyy long time. I was dying to try a purple colour, and so I grabbed one of the first dark purples I found, luckily I ended up loving it. This lipstick is buildable, so depending on how dark you want to go, will depend how much you layer on. Again I need to find a matching lip liner to really nail the application of this one.

    BYS Lipstick

I think this was the first lipstick I owned, and I think my Mum brought it for some dance or show I was in and needed a red lip for. Back then I didn't really appreciate the product because it's taken me a long while to get into lip colour, but I've recently been using this again and man does it have a seriously good colour pay off. It also stays on the lips quite well; it does transfer very, very easy, but considering how much it transfers the colour does also stick to your lips fairly well. BYS are a cheaper brand, but I think for the price point this is a pretty good product.

    The Essence
Having been on the restaurant scene for a while, culinary pair Lizzie and Anthony Kocon jumped back into the hospitality world with their new café-style deli restaurant, East End Hub. Choosing to return after starting their own family, the restaurant is right next door to Newcastle Beach and the CBD, and is 100% family-friendly.

    The Facts
Located in the building once known as Elements Café, the two trained chefs have a myriad of experience behind them. Both have previously worked at the Brewery Restaurant back in the mid 2000s, before also moving on to places like The Albion, Talulah and 5 Sawyers.

Given this, it’s no surprise this new venue is filled with amazing and tasty food, served by super friendly staff. With Anthony always up to date with modern food trends, the ever-changing menu always features new and exciting food that is always of the highest quality.

“All of the seafood comes from Australia,” Lizzie said, “There’s lots of salads, lots of fresh things; we like to turn the food over really quickly. [The menu] is unique because others don’t have exactly the little touches that he [Anthony] does, so there’s that point of difference.”

Not only is the food fresh and of premium quality, most is also supportive of local small businesses.

“We’ve got honey from a farm out in Denman which is organic, and our eggs come from out that way as well, and they’re biodynamic, organic eggs. We get pistachios from a little farm that specialise in selling them that’s in Wagga Wagga. We’re using Silverskin roasted coffee beans, which is a local guy and we found him at the Hunt & Gather markets, and we also use some sweets from Fifi La Femme”.

    The Find
A personal favourite of Lizzie’s, if its still on the menu when you venture in, be sure to try the Ocean Trout Red Rice Salad. It’s a beautiful piece of smoked Ocean Trout, put together with organic red rice, mixed with pieces of apple, pistachio, avocado and cheese, all mixed together.

.... because often we find it easier not to be.

It's easier to find flaws in ourselves, pick out our mistakes and where we went wrong, or generally just focus on the negative. Constantly doing this to yourself however will not bring anything good to your life.

I often wonder why we find it easier to be harsh than kind? Is it something we have been taught or conditioned to do by society? Is it just how our brains work? I know that part of the blame may fall on the crazy expectations social media puts on people today and the fact we are constantly exposed it to; but currently I feel we are so aware of this effect - yet we still struggle to push aside these negative views.

We might hear about this issue almost daily, yet I'm sure many of us still do it. As long as people continue bring themselves down when we really don't need to, then I think this message needs to continue to put out there.

I am 100% guilty of still doing this even though I constantly read motivational and inspirational posts telling me I don't need to be doing this to myself.

I would hope that we all have those moments when we do feel good about ourselves, that we get spouts of confidence and we feel like we can take on the world and do anything and everything. The challenge is maintaining that feel all the time. At times we all get sad and have moments of doubt, but the majority of our time should be spent feeling happy and confident.

As this is still a problem, I think another post on this cannot hurt. I think we all need a remainder like this sometimes; and that's all this post is suppose to be. I'm not here to give any detailed insight into this issue, but rather to give you that little remainder that I think we just need sometimes to keep on going. So whenever it is that you are finding this post, whatever type of day or week you are having, I hope this can remind you to stop for a minute and just think about all the things about you that are awesome. Save this post and feel free to come back and have a quick read anytime you feel yourself falling into a never-ending tunnel of negativity and doubt.

You are amazing and you have the potential to do amazing things - never forget this and never doubt this.

After seeing my previous haul of their products, Formula 10.0.6 were super kind and sent me out some of the newest editions to their range.

I don't suffer from acne, however my skin always seems to have at least one break out waiting to be shown to the world, sometime worse than others. I use to have quite crazy skin that would constantly be breaking out and there would be red marks and spots all over my face. These days however it has managed to calm itself down, so I don't tend to reach for blemish or spot treatments as much. However when I have a real bad boy pop up, I like to put something on it after my shower at night to help keep it at bay.

This stuff does have quite a chemical scent to it, though I attribute that to the fact it was made to help those suffering from acne, which tends to need a firmer hand to get under control. It can also give a slight sting when you put it on a blemish, particularly if you're like me and can't help but give them a squeeze. I personally don't mind it because it's only uncomfortable for a second and indicates to me that this product has some fighting power behind it.

It isn't something that will get rid of you're spots overnight, however I would say it does somewhat speed up the process. It is also extremely drying (and that is the point of the product) so make sure to only put it on the blemish and not to much of the surrounding skin or you will create a little dry patch, which is particularly unflattering if you're a makeup wearer like me.

This stuff is made to help reduce any little red patches or marks left on your face after a blemish has been cleared up. I'd never really thought to give a product like this a go before, but I sure loved the sound of the concept. Probably because I have quite fair skin, I often get left with little red marks when my spots finally say goodbye, so I was really keen to try this out.

The end of the product is actually a little metal ball, so you squeeze the tube while rolling the end on the spot where your mark is to get the product out, which I thought was a different and interesting way to apply a product. It also has an awesome, fruity scent.

I would say this works, but again it's not going to get rid of your marks overnight. The key with both of these products to consistently use them, and you'll begin to notice results.

The whole range is also really affordable which is a bonus!

The latest issue of my local zine, Newcastle Mirage, is currently floating around in stores. This month I actually brought back the journalist in me and did a piece for the magazine on a local menswear brand called Bippy Jean. If you aren't from Newcastle, or just haven't managed to go grab a copy yet, here's the story I did and some of the shots I took.

If you ventured to the Kurri Kurri Nostalgia Festival recently and saw four-time Golden Guitar winner Lawrie Minson jamming out on stage, you may have noticed he was wearing a pretty funky shirt. Fun fact, that shirt was made by a local brand called Bippy Jean Menswear. Run by Jessica and Andrew Ledgerwood and located just across from the Rivers store in Marketplace on Hunter Street Mall, the brand’s fashion creations are for those who don’t mind standing out amongst the crowd.

For those who have no idea what Bippy Jean is, how would you describe the company to them?
Jessica: I make small quantities of men’s shirts in Western style or fun prints.

Andrew: Basically we make shirts for guys who are looking for something a little bit different. A unique shirt that helps them celebrate their personality.

What makes the brand unique and different from others?
Jessica: I think the fabrics. We use really good quality and lots of prints, which I just think there isn’t that type of thing available for guys. There’s lots of business shirts, white shirts and stripes and stuff, but nothing really out there.

Andrew: A lot of guy’s shirts seem to celebrate gingham; we’re about bringing out some colour in life. Blokes love a colourful shirt; they just need to be encouraged to get into it.

What made you decide to start the label?
Jessica: I started making women’s clothes and then I just made a couple of shirts for Andy and my uncle and they got really excited about it, so I started making more. It seemed like a niche that was fun and that I could fill. I did this business course and they said it’s always best to niche in something, especially on a smaller scale. So I stopped doing the women’s stuff and just did shirts.

Where did the name Bippy Jean come from?
Jessica: The name is my nickname, which is Bippy, which comes from when my brother was a baby and couldn’t say my name, and then my middle name is Jean.

Where do you pull inspiration from for your designs?
Jessica: We spend a lot of time just searching through what fabrics are available.

Andrew: Once you get a little lick of colour you can follow a theme. Prior to these eucalyptus and flower prints, we had been running with a little bit of an animal print. So we had some polar bears, some penguins, there’s some bees coming, and some seagulls.

Jessica: People love animals. We also used Aboriginal fabric for the eucalyptus shirt and the wax flower shirt, which were made in Queensland by an Aboriginal community.

Andrew: One the sales reps who comes around and sees us with textiles had this line in the Aboriginal fabrics and as soon as he started showing us the stuff, like the gum leaves, they looked unreal. Then when you start asking a few questions and he gives you that back story it sort of sells it for you. So it’s M & S textiles and they collaborate with some communities in central Queensland. They get the designers in those communities to make up a print and an amount of the profit from the sales of the fabric goes back to the community. It’s cool to make shirts out of it.

Jessica: I noticed after we made it, we follow Dr. Carl on Instagram and he has one, I think his wife must have made it for him in that fabric, just with a tiny bit different design.

So you’ve got a good setup in here, it looks like the store front and then a workshop at the back?
Jessica: Yeah, it’s used mostly as a workshop. We got offered the shop by Renew Newcastle. I originally got offered one in the Emporium, but I just couldn’t do the hours because we have an eight-month old baby. So Chris from Renew offered me this shop. It’s just open school hours and I share it with another girl from Renew.

Has Newcastle influenced the design of the shirts?
Andrew: Yeah it does, from the point of view that we live really close up to Newcastle beach and it’s a vibrant end of town, and we were trying to make some shirts that fit into that. So there’s a lot of colour, trying to make it fun and appealing to young people. From the point of view of, do we put the break wall and Nobby’s lighthouse over everything, not really. We don’t try to make it obvious, but I think we have sort of made a shirt that fits in with the culture that we live in. We’re right here smack bang in the middle of it, so it’s hard to say it doesn’t inspire us, because it’s our life.

What would you say is your favourite design or designs, either past or present?
Andrew: Well that cloud shirt we’ve done is, I reckon, amazing; it really does look cool. We’ve also got some shirts in at Ramjet as well and we had this retro, orange dots shirt that went really well. That’s probably props to Michelle, she did a good job at selling all our stuff down there. We also keep telling the story about the Aboriginal prints.

What’s been your favourite thing so far about running the business?
Jessica: Well two weekends ago we were at Kurri Kurri Nostalgia Festival and this guy (Lawrie Minson) came in and brought a shirt and he said “I’m going to be playing on stage in half an hour”. So I went and had a look and saw my shirt up on stage. He’s asked us to do another one as well, so we’re trying to track down some fabric for him. I guess that’s the fun thing, guys come in, especially guys in bands, and they say “I just want something I can wear on stage”.

Andrew: Yeah this guy who plays in this band called Catfish Soup came in and brought a shirt off us, because we do custom shirts, and to know he’s out there playing in a shirt of ours and there’s no other shirt like it on the planet is pretty cool. It’s good to have someone come in and say this is what I want and to be able to make that for them and I guess, given that we’ve got some experience in the game, to say “look, this will make it look even better”. We had a guy come in the other day and he was really into Dobro guitars, and he really wanted this shirt with Dobro guitars and we were able to line it all up with piping around the cuffs and collar, and to see him wearing that shirt the other day and again knowing there’s no other shirt like that, it’s cool.

Jessica: Yeah that was fun. In the end he was like “I think you had more fun than I did making this”, because I kept ringing him and asking him if I could add extra details.

Where would you like to see the brand go in the future?
Jessica: I guess I’d like to have a wider client base, because at the moment I think I’m only really selling to Newcastle and Central Coast people.

Andrew: But I don’t think we want to lose that client-producer relationship. We really like to have a genuine, hands-on involvement with what’s going on with each shirt. It keeps that thing that’s fun for us, which is making a unique shirt for people. It’s nice to have that exposure to your clients to say you’ve made it and sold it to people; I don’t know that we’d want to get to far away from that.
