  • My Week in Mirage (12 Feb - 17 Feb)

    Weekly Hot Spot; SUSURU
Ramen has come to Newcastle. SUSURU, which means ‘slurp’ in Japanese, has brought a new kind of international cuisine to our city. Presented to you by the two guys behind the well-known Honeysuckle restaurant, Nagisa, owner Taiyo Namba and Head Chef Chris Schofield, aren’t just serving up a variety of ramen dishes, but also a range of traditional gyoza dumplings with a modern twist.

Take a journey through the botanical and marine wildlife of Australia with Nicole Berlach’s beautiful watercolour and illustrative works. Her range of art prints, illustrations and journals combine art and science, inspired by her bushwalks and adventures in nature.

As we become more and more aware of what we’re putting in our bodies, it is also important to be aware of what we’re putting on our skin, because whatever we do inevitable gets soaked into our system. So it’s no surprise that all natural skincare has become the new must-have in the beauty community over the last year, and local brand Happy Skincare fits right in.

Throwback Thursday; Turning on Nobby's Lighthouse
In January of 1858, Newcastle became home to the third lighthouse in NSW when the famous Nobbys Lighthouse was turned on for the first time. Chosen due to its prominent position at the end of the port, the lighthouse was built to replace the unreliable oil and coal burning lights that were being used at the time.

If you’re looking for some locally designed and handcrafted fine jewellery, you need to check out Natalie Kube Jewellery. Starting off with a corporate career, in 2000 Natalie decided to leave the office world behind and pursue her passion for jewellery making.

Quietly carving a name for itself in the world of vintage clothing here in Newcastle, MisKonduct Klothing is all about providing 50s inspired, pin up, rockabilly clothing for the alternative loving woman who is proud to flaunt her curves.
