  • Is It Worth Starting a Blog Anymore?

It seems like every man and his dog is blogging these days, so it can make you wonder, is it even worth trying to make any kind of name for myself in this saturated online world?

It is certainly true that there is no shortage of people sharing their thoughts and lives online these days. The positive that comes from this rise in the blogging world is that both the general public and mainstream brands and media are starting to take those of us who call ourselves 'bloggers' a little more seriously. They are beginning to recognise that a good or bad word from us to our audience can have a real impact. While I still feel there is a way to go and hopefully one day I won't feel so unsure and almost embarrassed to tell people one of the things I do with my life, things are certainly looking up.

With this growth and recognition however has meant more and more people are wanting to jump online and create their own little corner of the Internet. This has been great because it means those of us who like to blog now have so many more people we can talk to about it and form supportive communities with. But with such a saturated online space, for anyone who might be thinking of jumping into blogging and wanting to really try and make a successful go of it, you can be left wondering if it's even worth starting a blog anymore. Is there just to many voices now that mine will never be heard? Well here's what I think.

First and foremost, if you really, genuinely want to start a blog because you love writing and you have an opinion you want to express on something or simply have anything you really want to share, then do it! If doing this is something that just makes you happy and brings enjoyment into your life, you should definitely start. No amount of people online with blogs changes the fact that having your own space online brings you joy and is something you feel passionate about.

Feelings can start to get conflicting however if you start wanting to really take what you're doing to the next level and gain a sustainable following and try and basically make a life out of it. I'll tell you right now, it's damn hard. With so many people running blogs and beautiful Instagram pages, it can be hard to make a real, standout impact. Everyone seems to know how to make their stuff look professional and put-together from day one, so instead of being a standout quality, it's almost a must. If you're looking to make a financial gain from your work, getting the attention of PR companies and brands can be harder now because they just have so many people to choose from.

If you're wanting to "make it" in the world of blogging and social media, let me tell you, it certainly won't happen overnight. I mean yes there is always the exception of someone who has something that goes viral and then they do literally find successful overnight, but 99.9% of the time, that's not going to happen. If making a name for yourself is of no real concern to you, then please jump right in and get started! But if you're looking to make a bit of an income from blogging, or decide that's something you want down the track, you're going to need to put the work in. You need to make quality content, you need to push your name out in any way you can, you need to keep it at, and then basically you just need to wait and give it time.

So at the end of it all, I guess I'd say it is still worth starting a blog, it's just not going to be easy if your aim is to make it something that can financially support you and become your job/life. That's not to say it's impossible, because frankly I don't think anything is impossible, but I would confidently say it is much harder these days, and you will need to put in the work and time, and it might take a little while longer than you expected to see any kind of result you're after. But if you're willing to do that and go along for that ride, then it is 100% worth it.

    2. Really well written! I think the best blogs are those that are written out of passion, if they make it big that's just an added bonus xx
