  • It seems like every man and his dog is blogging these days, so it can make you wonder, is it even worth trying to make any kind of name for myself in this saturated online world?

It is certainly true that there is no shortage of people sharing their thoughts and lives online these days. The positive that comes from this rise in the blogging world is that both the general public and mainstream brands and media are starting to take those of us who call ourselves 'bloggers' a little more seriously. They are beginning to recognise that a good or bad word from us to our audience can have a real impact. While I still feel there is a way to go and hopefully one day I won't feel so unsure and almost embarrassed to tell people one of the things I do with my life, things are certainly looking up.

With this growth and recognition however has meant more and more people are wanting to jump online and create their own little corner of the Internet. This has been great because it means those of us who like to blog now have so many more people we can talk to about it and form supportive communities with. But with such a saturated online space, for anyone who might be thinking of jumping into blogging and wanting to really try and make a successful go of it, you can be left wondering if it's even worth starting a blog anymore. Is there just to many voices now that mine will never be heard? Well here's what I think.

First and foremost, if you really, genuinely want to start a blog because you love writing and you have an opinion you want to express on something or simply have anything you really want to share, then do it! If doing this is something that just makes you happy and brings enjoyment into your life, you should definitely start. No amount of people online with blogs changes the fact that having your own space online brings you joy and is something you feel passionate about.

Feelings can start to get conflicting however if you start wanting to really take what you're doing to the next level and gain a sustainable following and try and basically make a life out of it. I'll tell you right now, it's damn hard. With so many people running blogs and beautiful Instagram pages, it can be hard to make a real, standout impact. Everyone seems to know how to make their stuff look professional and put-together from day one, so instead of being a standout quality, it's almost a must. If you're looking to make a financial gain from your work, getting the attention of PR companies and brands can be harder now because they just have so many people to choose from.

If you're wanting to "make it" in the world of blogging and social media, let me tell you, it certainly won't happen overnight. I mean yes there is always the exception of someone who has something that goes viral and then they do literally find successful overnight, but 99.9% of the time, that's not going to happen. If making a name for yourself is of no real concern to you, then please jump right in and get started! But if you're looking to make a bit of an income from blogging, or decide that's something you want down the track, you're going to need to put the work in. You need to make quality content, you need to push your name out in any way you can, you need to keep it at, and then basically you just need to wait and give it time.

So at the end of it all, I guess I'd say it is still worth starting a blog, it's just not going to be easy if your aim is to make it something that can financially support you and become your job/life. That's not to say it's impossible, because frankly I don't think anything is impossible, but I would confidently say it is much harder these days, and you will need to put in the work and time, and it might take a little while longer than you expected to see any kind of result you're after. But if you're willing to do that and go along for that ride, then it is 100% worth it.

Last Saturday saw Sephora finally make its way to the Hunter and open its doors at Charlestown Square. I was lucky enough to be one of the few people selected to get in the doors an hour before anyone else, as well as receiving a 20% off voucher, which was something I had to take advantage of because anyone who knows Sephora knows they never do sales! The entry of Sephora means so many bigger brands are finally accessible in our area, including Kat Von D, so you know I had to grab me that Tattoo Liner, especially since my favourite Models Prefer Samantha Jade liner is no longer made.

The other major thing I was hoping would be in store with the Fenty Beauty range from Rihanna, which has just been released the night before. Luckily they had rows upon row dedicated to it, so you know I had to grab a few pieces from that to, though I really wanted to grab one of everything. First off, everything is actually quite affordable, and from testing pretty much all the products while I was there, I can tell you they are are certainly worth the money. I also love the packaging, especially the boxes the products come in. I grabbed myself the Gloss Bomb, which is her current lip gloss. Lip gloss isn't something I ever usually grab for myself, but I was told about how it amazing it was, and how it wasn't sticky like most, so I figured I'd give it a go, and I love it! I actually wore it out that same night. I love layering it over any nude coloured lipstick I'm wearing to give my lips a plump and luscious look.

My other Fenty Beauty purchase was one of the Kilowatt Freestyle Highlighter Duos in Mean Money/Hu$lta Baby. The pigment and highlight these give is insane! The range shades also means you can pick something depending on whether you like your highlighter to blind the person standing next to you, or prefer something a bit more subtle.

Spring has sprung, which always makes for a weird weather time here in Australia, but layered maxi dresses from Zaful are here to help! The days can start off cold, heat up to temperatures that make you start sweating, and then drop off again at night to make you feel like winter has returned. So picking what to wear at this time of the year can suddenly be a bit tricky, and that's where a staple maxi dress comes in handy. Their length means they can help give you some coverage for those cooler moments, and they can easily be paired with a jacket and boots for even more warmth. If the day takes a warm turn though, their flowy design helps let the air flow to bring your body temperature down. Zaful have an awesome selection of maxi dresses to suit all fashion tastes, and they won't break the bank. I've complied a couple of my favourite below.

    1. Floral Cold Shoulder Wrap Dress
    2. Bell Sleeve Tribal Pattern Print Dress
    3. Floral Print High Slit Backless Maxi Dress
    4. Floral High Slit Ruffles Maxi Off Shoulder Dress

    1. Off The Shoulder Slit Striped Maxi Dress
    2. Double Slit Trench Military Dress
    3. Halter Striped Maxi Dress
    4. Front Slit Floral Ruffles Midi Dress

If you want to grab some summer essential pieces for yourself, you can! Zaful have given me a discount code just for you guys. Use the code ZFEN at checkout to get 10% off your order.

Some say less is more, and for some people's skin that works. For me however, my temperamental skin needs me to follow a little bit of an extensive skincare regime to help keep breakouts and other less than lovely skin problems at bay. Well except for those hormonal breakouts that always come during that time of the month; no amount of cleanser, toner or moisturiser is going to keep that beast at bay unfortunately. As I've gotten more and more into skincare over the years, my skincare routine has certainly grown, and I think I've finally refined it. While the products I use tend to switch up quite often as I'm constantly trying new things, the actual order and type of products I use always stays the same. As I've become pretty happy with my routine, I thought I'd share the steps I take and some of the products I'm currently using.

    1. Exfoliate
    Dermalogica Daily Superfoliant
I always need to start with an exfoliate. As well as acting as the first weapon in my battle to get all the makeup and dirt off my face, it helps to make sure any dead skin that's built up, particularly overnight, is banished and keeps my skin feeling smooth and unclogged.

    2. Cleanse
Neutrogena Hydro Boost Cleanser Water Gel or Gelee Milk
After exfoliating I then do a wash with a proper cleaner, so I almost double cleanse my face each morning and night. The two cleaners that I switch between currently are the new Hydro Boost Cleansers from Neutrogena, which comes in either Water Gel or Gelee Milk form. These new products add to and compliment the Hydro Boost range you can already find on the shelves.
The Gelee Milk acts as multi-purpose product to both effectively clean off your makeup while hydrating your skin. I tend to reach for this one at night so the moisturising effect can sink in overnight.
The Water Gel is something I'll tend to grab in the mornings, and this product will also help to remove any dirt from your face while also giving it some much needed hydration so you're looking fresh and ready to tackle the world.

    3. Makeup Recovery Spray (optional)
    Skindinavia Post-Makeup Recovery Spray
This is something I'll pop on after toning at night if I've been wearing makeup during the day. This spray aims to keep your skin free from blemishes that can be caused by wearing makeup for hours on end, and I have to say I've noticed my skin seems to recover and feel a lot better that night and the next morning if I use this after a day of wearing makeup.

    4. Tone
La Roche-Posay Ultra Micellar Water Reactive Skin
I find it hard to go wrong when it comes to toner, but the most recent one I've used is this one from La Roche-Posay. As this is a micellar water, I find I can also use this on my eyes to remove any left over mascara and it won't sting my eyes.

    4. Serum
Manuka Doctor Gold Dust Firming Serum (day)
I like to pop this on during the day because the Gold Dust feature adds a little sparkle to your skin while also helping to maintain an even skin tone.
Goodness Be Bright Chia Serum (night)
This is the one I'm currently using at night. It's a little thicker than some other serums I've used, but I do prefer having something a little heavier at night when it has time to sink in to my skin. This serum is vegan and fast absorbing, and I honestly have nothing bad to say about it.

    5. Moisturise
Philosophy Renewed Hope in a jar dry
I love Philosophy products, including this one. There is also a night cream version in this range, but this day cream is nice and hydrating while also being light, so it won't ball up or feel cloggy under any makeup you put on.
    Genie Beauty Dream Cream (night)
This moisturiser can be used either day or night, but because I do have a daydream which is a bit lighter, I like to keep this one for night use. I find it fast absorbing and it has a caramel-like smell to it to me which I like. Not much to say other than it does help keep my skin hydrated through the night and when I wake up in the morning I'm not left dry or flaky at all.

    6. Eye Cream
    Dermalogica Stress Positive Eye Lift
Adding an eye cream to my skincare routine has made such a difference over the years. Keeping your under eyes hydrated really helps tackle the appearance of any bags or dark circles. You do still need to be drinking enough water and getting enough sleep if you want to say goodbye to them for good, but a good eye cream is also going to do wonders. I love this one from Dermalogica because the applicator helps to keep the product cool while you massage it in into your skin.

    7. Spot Treatment
Formula 10.0.6 Acne Blemish Mark Treatment
While my battle with blemishes has certainly decreased over the years, I do still get a pesky pimple every now and then (hello that time of the month) and I like to tackle them straight away with this spot cream from Forumla 10.0.6. This does have a bit of a chemical smell to it which can hang around, so I tend to only pop this on at night, but I find it better to apply such treatments then away because they have a better chance of working because they won't get covered in dirt and makeup. This stuff works wonders. Depending on the size and severity of the pimple, if I apply this consistently each night they will usually be diminished and gone within a couple of days, or even over night for quite small whiteheads.
