  • We all have those days (or weeks, or months) where we open our closet to get dressed for the day and just think 'I have nothing to wear' because you're not feeling inspired by anything you see. Suddenly you begin questioning your entire wardrobe and wish you were a millionaire so you could get rid of 90% of it and start again. For most of us however that isn't a realistic way to be able to deal with the problem, but if you are looking to really start nailing down and create a wardrobe that you just can't wait to open and wear each day, here are some tips and tricks that I've been following recently to try and do this myself.

    Nail the Basics

Before you go anywhere near that laptop and start online shopping or grab your wallet and hit your local shops, you need to take some time to look at your closet and really nail down what type of basics make up your style. Go through what is already in your closet and identify what pieces you really do love and the things you always find yourself wearing. Then look at the things you don't ever reach for and figure out why you love the pieces you do so much and why you don't the others. This should help you to begin to figure out what type of basic styles you really gravitate towards; do you prefer natural tones or patterns? Do you like a fitted figure or something a little looser and flowy? What do you feel flatters you more and what doesn't seem to work for you?

When you understand your basic loves you can begin to clear the closet of anything that doesn't really hold any of those qualities and look at what pieces you're missing. Now you're one step closer to shopping, but we're not quite there yet.

    Get on those Pinterest boards

Now you have some basic styles in mind, give yourself some further inspiration for what to buy, by getting on those Pinterest boards. Creating a board of fashion inspiration can make purchasing clothing so much easier and help you to buy pieces that will actually work together, either with other new items or existing pieces in your wardrobe, and make a wearable outfit that you will love. With your new basics in mind, do some searching of outfits using those types of clothing and see what you can find and what sparks your interest. As you make your board, take a moment to have a look at all your saved pins and see if you can see a bit of a theme or continual use of certain items and styles - this will also help you to narrow down what type of clothing you really like to wear and want in your new wardrobe.

    Find Trends that Fit You

Just because we're trying to narrow our style down a little more doesn't mean we can't still dabble in some trends here and there. A trend might pop up that you feel completely encapsulates your style and is something you want to wear all the time; in that instance for you it's not really a trend anymore. Trends can also be ways to try to add new and interesting accessories and pieces to your classic outfits to jazz them up every now and then. While we want to avoid buying into trends to much and using them as an excuse to buy lots of cheap pieces of clothing we probably won't wear more than once or twice, they can be a great way to open yourself up to new styles and outfit ideas to help continually evolve your wardrobe.

    Spend Wisely

This means no more buying that neon pleather skirt just because it's currently half price and such a steal! You know what kind of clothing you really like, what styles you actually reach for and wear all the time, so don't be scared to invest a little more in such pieces. That perfect black coat that will last you season after season or those shoes you know you'll wear almost everyday, those type of things are worth spending those extra dollars on because usually that means they are made from better quality materials that will last through wear and tear longer than cheaper pieces - and because we know we'll be wearing it all the time, resistance in our items is what we need. That doesn't mean if you see something that you think could add something fun to an outfit or a piece you've been thinking about for a while (even if it's not completely within your usual style) does go on sale, that you shouldn't jump at the chance - just always keep in mind if it's something you'll really wear more than once and therefore is worth taking up space in your closet.

    Have Fun with It

Fashion, while at times practical, is also meant to be a lot of fun and while it's definitely good to have a wardrobe full of clothes that we love and wear often and look nice, having some fun pieces for those nights out or days you're just feeling it, isn't a bad thing either. Take a chance on that animal print jacket if you're feeling it or give those crazy shoes a whirl - now that we've done all this hard work to build a solid foundation, its time to have a little fun with it.

Today I want to introduce to you a new brand of skincare that has come into my life recently, Synergie Skin. Now I'll be straight up and say these products aren't on the cheap side, but when it comes to investing in some good stuff for your skin (which you have with you for life) I honestly feel these products are something worth considering.

All of Synergie Skin's products are Australian made, cruelty free and made with the very best of laboratory synthesised and naturally derived ingredients. Everything is also free from parabens, SLS or other sodium sulfates, artificial colours and synthetic fragrances.
If you're after a powerful night time serum that will help with your skin concerns without irritating, you need to check this Vitamin A Serum out. It has a fresh peppermint-like scent that is somewhat strong, so if you're sensitive to scents this might not work for you. I found the product itself to be a little bit oily but not so much that I couldn't use it on my skin (because super oily products just do not cooperate with me). It does feel a bit sticky as it settles into the skin but once covered with moisturiser it feels fine and did leave me feeling hydrated and ready to head to sleep and have my skin soak up all the goodness.

ImproveEyes Night Intense Overnight Eye Treatment

We all know how much I love me a good eye serum, so I was keen to give this one a go. This treatment is anti-aging and uses advanced peptide technology to do it. The skin around your eyes is super fine and delicate, so it is always important to keep it hydrated and generally take care of it. This treatment will help to slow the appearance of fine lines, crows feet, dark circles and puffiness and thanks to the inclusion of green coffee extract, will fight against free radicals and help give your under-eyes that much needed hydration. This product has more of a creamy consistency and again has a peppermint-like scent, that also smells like it has some natural elements in there. This is a little oiler ,but as this is meant for night time I find something a little oiler like this is perfect as your skin has plenty of time to soak it all up.

    Super Serum Age Defying Serum

If you're wanting a serum that is really going to help you fight the battle against aging, look no further. This revolutionary product is filled with six epigenetically active peptides, marine extracts and botanical actives which will actually affect the way your genes produce collagen. It also contains a cutting-edge neuropeptide that mimics the effects of muscle relaxants which helps to soften fine lines and wrinkles. On top of that, potent peptides work to reverse cellular ageing and repair DNA; cool right! With this stuff a little goes a long way and it has a bit of a sweeter scent. It is a littler oily so needs to be worked into the skin and needs some time to sink in.  I also found it a bit sticky once dry so this is something I prefer to use during my night time skincare routine.
This night time moisturiser contains a blend of Marine Exopolysaccharide and peptide technology which aims to tighten and hydrate your skin to help give you a fresher and firmer look. Being a night time moisturiser this is a little thicker and I also wasn't the biggest fan of the scent, which has a natural smell to it, but it's not to the point I wouldn't use the product. After applying this product my skin certainly felt smoother and hydrated.

Elastense Neck and Décolletage Firming Cream

This product has to be one of my favourites simply because I love the fact that a brand has a created a product that focuses on an area I think we often forget about. We can focus a lot on the skin on our face and trying to stop the aging the process there, but our neck and décolletage will age just as much and can give away all your hard work and diligence if you don't pay attention to them. This cream aims to lift and firm these areas while also reducing the appearance of uneven skin tone and poor texture. There are a number of good ingredients inside this jar that help to fight aging in this area including Acetyl tetrapeptide-2 which helps to provide firmness to the skin by enhancing the assembly of elastin and increasing collagen production, Marine Exopolysaccharide which can instantly minimise the appearance of a sagging neck by visibly lifting and firming skin for up to eight hours and Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) which addresses the appearance of uneven pigmentation, boosts skin immunity, increases hydration and stimulates collagen production. This product has a mild natural scent which I didn't mind at all and it sinks quickly into the skin so it's great to use both day and night.

I know there was a bit of a brief pause in between blog posts there; life has certainly busy. But to brings them back I'm kicking things off with some wonderful products that I've had with me for a little while now that I wanted to share with you all - some tried, tested and loved brands to showcase this time around.

    Jurlique Softening Rose Body Cream

The Jurlique Softening Rose Body Cream contains rosa gallica extract, avocado oil and shea butter to help restore softness to your skin and also leave it looking smoother. It also contains Beeswax and Sesame seed oil which helps to replenish the skin’s protective barrier. As with all their products, the rose scent is quite strong. I personally don't mind it but as always, those who aren't a fan of scented products probably won't get along with this one. I found this cream dries into the skin super quickly and isn't to thick, but still leaves the skin feeling nice and hydrated and smooth.

Jurlique Softening Rose Body Cleansing Cream

If you've ever used the Dove Moisturising shower gel product then this is like that but 10 times better. As a girl who already has so many steps to complete in the bathroom, if I can get two done at once I'm all for it. The cream only leaves a slight scent of rose on the skin after washing off and my skin definitely feels more moisturised afterwards compared to when using a normal shower gel. It is enriched with botanical oils including Macadamia Oil and Shea Butter which help to rebalance dryness and restore that precious moisture to your skin. It is also a soap-free formula, so it's gentle on the skin and won't strip away natural oils.

    Moments4Me Anti-Ageing Face Mask

This isn't the first time I've tried face masks from Moments4Me and I have to say they never disappoint. This mask left me skin feeling so soft and hydrated. I used this after a weekend of camping and not washing my face properly, along with a clay mask, to try and stop my face from breaking out - the next day my skin was calm and looked refreshed. This mask in particular contains hydrolyzed wheat proteins, marine collagen, oligosaccharides of Chicory roots and Laminaria algae derivative, which help to produce a lifting effect on the skin and improve elasticity, while also moisturising.

    Moments4Me Brightening Face Mask

This mask is formulated from alpine plants that provide lightening and antioxidant properties which allow the mask to help restore balance and illumination to your complexion. It also helps to reduce pigment spots and restore freshness and radiance to your skin. I found using this mask certainly left me feeling refreshed and my skin just felt nice and clean, smooth and also hydrated. I think sometimes our skin, especially on your face, can do with a little extra boost of some nourishing ingredients every now and then, and this is a great product for it.

    Bioderma Photoderm BB Cream

To me, this stuff just smells like sunscreen, which I'm not a big fan of unless I'm actually heading to the beach. This has a sheer coverage as you'd expect from a BB cream,  but I found it very, very sheer. Where I placed it on the skin it felt quite soft but a lot of the product seemed to sink straight into my skin. If you'd like to have a little coverage when heading somewhere like the beach, then this would probably be great for you. Honestly when I'm off somewhere like that I just can't be bothered with makeup and if I'm bothering to wear it, it's because I want coverage, so I don't really find myself reaching for this product ever. However, depending on what you prefer to have on your skin this could be a great option for you. Also, an FYI, this product is fragrance free, paragon free, hypoallergenic and formulated with anti UVA UVB dermatological filters to keep your skin protected from harmful UV rays.

Peter Thomas Roth Water Drench Croud Cream Cleanser

This cleanser from Peter Thomas Roth is a non-stripping, fragrance-free cream cleanser that aims to maintain your skin’s moisture levels to give you a more radiant and youthful-looking complexion. The Hyaluronic Acid it contains helps your skin to attract and retain up to 1,000 times its weight in water from moisture in the atmosphere. Also, the Sodium PCA and Coconut Oil within the product will nourish your skin, while the Marshmallow Root Extract will allow it to soften and soothe. This product has a cool metallic white colour to it and I found it doesn't foam up quite a lot, but you can still feel it working. It feels nice on the skin and it didn't leave me feeling dry afterwards. The scent isn't exactly my favourite but like with most cleansers, it doesn't linger once washed off so it's nothing I can't deal with.

Peter Thomas Roth Water Drnech Hyaluonic Cloud Cream Hydrating Moisturiser
I've had a full size of those before and I loved it! The name of this product is probably giving you a visualisation of hydrated and soft, touchable skin, which is exactly what this moisturiser will help you to achieve. This super hydrating cream will give your skin an intense burst of hydration which can last for up to 72 hours. I however like to use this product at night and let it sink into my skin as I sleep. As I wash my face each morning, it doesn't get the chance to be on there for 72 hours, but something like this would be a lifesaver for a long plane trip or to fight the drying effects a bitterly cold wind.
