  • Like the rest of the world, I bloody love Netflix, so I thought I'd start reviewing some of the things I watch to maybe give you some suggestions on what to view next and whether they're any good or not. To start this all off I'm going to chat about a Netflix Original documentary I watched recently (probably one of my favourite things to watch on Netflix) called 13th.

If I had to describe my feeling about this documentary in a short and sweet nutshell of a sentence I'd have to say, holy shit this was so good and mind-blowing and outraging - you have to watch this (check out the trailer below).

13th is a documentary which basically informs you all about the history of racial inequality that exists in the United States, particularly the fact that their prisons are disproportionately filled with a staggering amount of African-Amercians. Now I didn'tt have any major interest or passion about any of these issues when clicking play, but this documentary had me hooked and I learnt so much!

It's so hard to not write down all the crazy and downright terrible facts and figures this documentary showed me and made me go, are you serious?! But I don't want to spoil it for you.

Basically the documentary takes you through how African-Americans have been targeted in American since the days of the slave trade, and how really nothing has gotten much better since. The sneaky ways the actual government found to incarcerate all these young coloured people is just insane.

If you're wondering why it's called 13th, the name stems from the 13th Amendment of the American Consitution. This Amendment states that "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States" - see the loophole?

Racial inequality is not a new topic of discussion no matter where you are in the world, and has in fact become a hot topic again of late, but the way in which people in power have helped entrench this inequality is something I hadn't realised before, and is something that this documentary will really open your eyes to. Considering the fact a current election is underway, and the way people are still using certain groups of people to create fear campaigns to push their way into power, this documentary couldn't be more relevant right now.

Did you know that the skin around your eyes is 7 - 10 times thinner than on any other part of your face? Did you know the skin around your eyes lacks oil glands? Well now you do; your life is different now (Grace Helbig reference anyone?). It is because of these two factors that the skin under your eyes needs more care and attention than other parts of our face. The thinner skin means it is much more vulnerable and delicate and shows signs of ageing quicker, and as we age this skin becomes even thinner as it loses collagen and elastin. The lack of oil glands means this area can get drier much easier as well, and dry skin is never a fun time.

It's usually not until we get older and start to really notice our skin ageing that we decide to start frantically buying eye creams and various treatments to try help and repair or reverse these things; but really we should be looking after these delicate little areas from the get-go. To me, it's the same as moisturising your body, you know how dry and unflattering it can look and feel when you don't take care of it, so why isn't our eye area sparking the same thoughts in our brains?

Truth be told I was guilty of paying little attention to this area up until recently when, thanks to a busy end-of-year Uni schedule and just generally not making sure I was getting my full eight hours, my under-eye area was looking a little dark, tired and generally worse for wear. When this Philosophy 'Take a Deep Breath' Oxygenating Gel Cream came to my door step, I instantly started using it, and I have to say I'm impressed. In saying that, this isn't some miracle worker that will transform the skin under your eyes to smooth, tight and perfect looking with one application, this is something to be used regularly to see improvements. Using this product helps to ensure your under-eye area is getting that much needed hydration and I've found over time it has made my eyes look a little fresher and brighter (also in combination with getting some proper sleep).

As we age I think it's inevitable that all our skin, including under our eyes, will begin to show that's been with us on this earth for some years, and I think that's natural and beautiful in it's own way. But I think by ensuring we look after it and keep it clean, healthy and hydrated, you can help your skin age in the most graceful looking way possible.

P.S Can we take a minute to appreciate how cute Philosophy packaging is with all the little, uplifting quotes!

Yesterday I received my first ever Spendless Cosmetics box. Now if you've never heard of them before, let me give you a quick run down (also find details for a giveaway involving this box and it's products at the end of the post!) Now there's a few different faucets to them. One is this little subscription box that you see here. If you sign up, each month you'll receive five full-sized makeup goodies - that means for as little as $30 a month you can receive around $110 worth of makeup to your door. They have three month, six month and 12 month sign up periods.

Another feature is their website where you can buy a range of different makeup, skincare, haircare and fragrance products.

Lastly, they offer the opportunity for you to become a Spendless Cosmetics reseller. Basically this allows you to set up an online store for only $30 a month, where you can recommend and sell a bunch of beauty goodies to your friends, with you then receiving a $5 commission on each sale you make. You'll also be able to sell these cosmetics at a much cheaper rate than the usual retail value, which is a great incentive for people to come to you for their makeup needs.

But now it's on to the good part - what I got in this month's box!

Milani Crystal Gloss - Summer Baby
This looks so beautiful on the lips! It produces a beautiful metal look which reflects both a pink and orange colour, I love this!

Covergirl Lipslicks Smoochies Lip Balm - 570
First of all, I just have to say the smell of this product takes my right back to my childhood when I would use Lip Smackers; it smells exactly the same! It might be an orange colour on the stick but when you pop it on your lips it gives of a nice sheer, pink finish, and also makes your lips feel nice ad moisturised

NYX Eye and Eyebrow Pencil - Baby Pink
I've never actually tried a NYX product before, and this box has given me the opportunity to try two! First this eye and eyebrow pencil. When reading the packaging, I thought it was a bit crazy to label a pink pencil as suitable for eyebrow use, but considering the huge coloured eyebrow trend that seems to be sweeping the Internet at the moment, and the fact Halloween is almost upon us, it seems to be a great time to give it a go. This pencil glides on so smoothly, which is always important when dealing with our sensitive little eye areas, and has great pigmentation!

    NYX Eyeshadow - Charcoal Brown
I've heard plenty of people sing praises for this product, and now I know why. These shadows are super pigmented and also super soft, so they glide effortlessly onto your lid.

Maybelline Colour Tattoo Pure Pigment - Buff and Tuff
Now I had heard plenty about the Maybelline Colour Tattoo that comes in a more gel-like consistency, but I didn't realise they also make them in a powder form, but these are also awesome. Once you start spreading this product on your lid it creates the most beautiful metallic, shimmery finish! Be warned, you'll be finding glitter on you for days afterwards.

Now before you go, I have some super exciting news. If you want to get your hands on any of these products to give them a try for yourself, well you can - in fact you can have every single one, just by entering my giveaway. Head over to my Instagram where I'm hosting a giveaway where you can win one of these boxes for yourself!

Recently the lovely people from Dermalogica sent me a few products to try out, so I thought I'd share with you my thoughts on them. A little bit of information about Dermalogica before I dive into goodies; they have a wide range of different products to suit all sorts of skin types, so no matter what skin issues you may be dealing with, chances are they'll have something to help you. They also don't include nasties like artificial fragrances, colours or Lanolin, so you can be sure there's nothing going onto your skin that could make it worse.

I honestly normally don't pick up sunscreen unless I'm heading out to the beach or to do some activity all day in the sun, but this little bottle has changed my mindset on that for the better. Basically it's a little bottle of sunscreen made specially for your face. First of all, the fact that a sunscreen is oil free and matte is a god send, and I have to say it lives up to those claims 100%. It also doesn't overly smell like sunscreen, but rather has, I think a bit of a fruity smell to it, though just slightly. This little bottle has pretty much become a part of my daily morning face routine now, especially if the sun is out in force. I keep it on my vanity which reminds me everyday to throw some of this on before I start doing my makeup, and I can't believe I wasn't doing this before. The skin on our face can be so sensitive and nothing will damage it quicker than always being exposed to the sun without proper protection. As this is oil free and matte it goes under makeup perfectly, you honestly can't even tell you're wearing it once it sinks in, but your face will thank you for it. I honestly would strongly advise anyone reading this to make a product like this a part of their daily face routine. This one in particular will be perfect if you have oiler or breakout-prone skin.

Another Dermalogica product I have to give two big thumbs up to. Containing mint and lavender extracts, this stuff comes out, as the name suggests, in a gel-type consistency. A little goes a long way with this stuff which I always love because it means you're getting value for money. This product didn't lather up as much compared to other products I use, which usually makes me think it won't work, but I was proved wrong. My face felt super clean after using this, and when used in combination with the Daily Microfoliant (see below), it's an awesome face cleaning combination. It's also soap-free, which I find always helps ensure my face isn't left feeling super dry and tight after use.

First off, I just have to say this stuff smells bloody horrible to me. It basically smells like you're putting crushed Panadol all over your face! If it was any other product I'd be throwing it straight in the bin, but the fact I still use it daily is a testament to just how freaking good this stuff is, even the smell can't put me off it.

Basically you put a small amount of the gritty powder into your hand along with a drop or two of water and then rub this all over your face. Again the smell isn't pleasant but it doesn't linger once you wash it off your face, so all is good. I honestly have loved adding this to my daily face cleaning routine. I tend to get dry patches here and there on my face, particularly on my nose sometimes, but adding this into my routine has really helped to combat that, and it just leaves my face feeling so smooth and clean afterwards - I honestly can't praise this stuff enough.
As this stuff is a powder, probably avoid keeping it on your shower floor if you're like me and prefer to wash your face in the shower. I just keep mine sitting on the top frame of my shower to avoid any water getting into the bottle and wrecking the product.

Have you tried anything from the Dermalogica brand?
    . 10/22/16 .

Chapstick is one of those brands that I remember from my childhood for some reason. I don't think I even used it that much, but hearing the word just takes me back to being a kid again. Speaking of which, Chapstick have just launched a brand new range called Total Hydration. I was sent four from the range to try out, two of which have a lovely hint of colour to them. All four are 100% natural, they contain Argan oil and avocado butters to help keep your lips perfectly hydrated and feeling bloody wonderful.

Fresh Citrus and Honey Blossom are the two that aren't tinted, but they smell so freaking good. I currently have Fresh Citrus sitting on my desk and I honestly continually sit here and put it on in procrastination because I just love how it smells so much!

Merlot and Rose Petal are the two tinted ones. Merlot is a bit of a darker tint than Rose Petal, but both are completely wearable in the day. I even wore Merlot to a wedding recently because I didn't feel like making a massive statement with my lip colour but I wanted it to be a bit enhanced. As their quite a soft tint, when they begin wear off it's not even noticeable which is always a bonus. I've got some pictures of me wearing them below.

Recently I received some goodies from the lovely people at John Frieda, so I thought I'd share with you these pieces and a little bit about what I thought of them.

As someone with bleached blonde hair I am all about purple toning products, and I was quite impressed with this Colour Refreshing Toner. I used this the day after I had my roots touched up to help combat just a little bit of the yellowish tone that was there, as well to give all my hair a bit of a whitening and brightening up. I also used it during my next wash to take my hair just another step whiter, and I was pretty impressed with how it handled. Basically you shampoo and condition your hair as normal and then you lather this stuff all over your head and let it sit for 3 - 5 minutes (I always go for the maximum time because I can't get enough white in my hair). My hair did feel a bit dry after I washed this out which left me worried, but once I brushed and dried my hair it didn't seem affected at all.

I don't generally use sea-salt spray because I just find my hair doesn't like it. I have one other sitting in my bathroom which I never use because I just don't get along with the texture that it leaves my hair. I know a lot of people love how their hair goes after getting out of the ocean, but I personally hate mine. I'm not sure if it's because I bleach it (probably) but it just goes all dreadlock-like and unmanageable instead of nice, salty curls. I made myself give this a go anyway because I thought maybe I'd change my mind, but I can't say I have. Now that doesn't mean this isn't a good product, in fact I think it's actually perfect because the ends of my hair where I sprayed it while it was still damp, did come up very similar to how they would if I'd dipped them in the ocean, so it does the job and I would recommend it if you love that look for your hair.

I haven't gotten around to trying this yet (I know, shame on me), but hear me out. Again I think it's because I colour my hair, but I find my hair does have a fair bit of volume on it's own when I blow dry it because it tends to be a little drier thanks to the bleach. However I am still keen to see how this one goes, so check back to see how I go with it.

I have tried so many purple shampoos and conditioners in my time, in fact part of me thinks I may have used these exact ones back when I first was getting serious about trying to whiten up my blonde hair. These days I tend to use a more blue-based shampoo rather than a purple base because I find that really gives me more a silver look, but that doesn't in anyway discredit these two beauties. If you're blonde and if you've got some nasty yellow tones you want to get rid of, these two together will surely do that job for you.

Also I have to give the conditioner a virtual and impossible high five. I'm sure I've mentioned this before, but my hair is stubborn when it comes to what conditioners it likes. It will either love something and my hair will be free of knots, or it will completely reject it and I will struggle to pull a brush through my hair when I get out of the shower. My hair seemed to like this purple one. It is quite a small bottle for me, because my hair loves to suck up all the moisture, so for me this probably won't last a super long time, but it sure does work.

Overall I have to say I'm a bit of a John Frieda fan. They have quality products that work pretty great, especially for those of us who are blonde and always on a mission to get our hair that shade lighter. They're also all super affordable products that are available all over the place, so if you're thinking about trying some out I would highly recommend giving them a go.
