  • In a world where there is a currently ALOT going on, and certainly much more important things than one's hair, I completely understand the true 'first world problem' feels of this post. But in a world of so much dark, I wanted to take a minute to give a shout out to something that brings a little bit of light to my little space in the world (and my hair).

After not having had my hair done since around February, the regrowth was strong and she was ready for a bit of a touch up. This visit to Suki Hairdressing actually was a little trip down memory lane, with my hair currently about as long as it was when I had my first ever appointment and my regrowth also about as long as the first time I ever sat in a Suki chair (except in much, much, much better condition).

With restrictions still in place, Suki have been taking all the right precautions including sitting all clients one seat apart both at the mirrors and the basins, all magazines and reading materials have been temporarily removed, hand sanitiser is available upon arrival and all surfaces are constantly been cleaned and sanitised for your health and safety.

After spending the last couple of months living in a world that has been operating unlike anything we've ever been use to before, while getting your hair done may seem simple and unimportant in a time like this, it was nice to go back, see all the Suki girls and have the chance to do something a bit more 'normal' and routine for a moment.

If during iso you've let your hair go or done a few little DIY jobs that maybe didn't turn out quite as you hoped and you're looking for someone to give you back the hair you know and love, I highly recommend giving Suki a call and booking yourself appointment - I promise you won't be disappointed.

So if you're looking for something to not only pamper yourself with but give your face a big hydration kick, be sure to check this mask out.

Oxygen-C Vitamin C Soothing Cream Clay MaskWhen you think of a clay mask, you probably think of something that comes in a tub that you need to spend time spreading all over your face and that will get all the dirt out of your face. but that leaves you feeling super dry; not the case with this clay mask from Skin Physics. This clay mask comes in the convenient and easy form of a sheet mask, which allows it to provide hydration to your skin while also helping to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, improve uneven skin tone and soothe to give you overall brighter looking skin. Made from a superfine fabric, this mask sits comfortably and evenly on your face, so you can be rest assured every part of your face is getting the benefits. Oxygen-C Vitamin Micellar Water
If you're looking to reap some of the benefits this brand's products provides when you're not having a face mask session, the Skin Physics Oxygen-C Vitamin Micellar Water is one place to start. This Micellar Water not only helps to remove any dirt and makeup, it will also help to soothe and refresh your skin. Containing Vitamin C, Chamomile Extract, Native Australian Kakadu Plum (the world’s richest source of natural Vitamin C), Provitamin B5, soothing Aloe Leaf Juice and Omega-6 rich Sunflower Seed Oil, your skin is well and truely in good hands with this product. This can be used on a daily basis (I use a toner or micellar water both day and night) and for those who aren't a fan of scents in their products, this one is perfect for you.

    Oxygen-C Hydrating Vitamin C Toner
Maybe you're more after a toner than a micellar water, well Skin Physics has you covered there to. This toner will keep you hydrated all day long, while also shielding your face from UV exposure, which can cause premature ageing. Formulated with natural Vitamin C (from Kakadu Plum Extract), New Zealand Manuka Honey (which has  natural moisturising and antibacterial properties), Betaine amino acid (for instant and long-lasting moisturisation) and Aloe Vera (Gel) Juice, this is some good stuff. It is also non-comedogenic, paragon free, alcohol free and oil free. In terms of scent, this does have a nice sweet citrus scent which I did find lingered on the skin. I personally loved it but my no-scent people, this one probably isn't for you.

    Oxygen-C Brightening Foaming Cleanser
Before all of this, you probably want to give your face a bit of a cleanse. This Brightening Foaming Cleanser is oil-free and helps to remove excess dirt, oil and detoxify any impurities in your skin to leave it looking and feeling clean and clear. Formulated from the same ingredients as the toner, it has a similar scent also, though not as strong and not one that will linger on the skin.

Foundation No More BB Cream SPF 30+Lucky last, something to pop on your skin after you've completed all your nourishing skincare and you're ready to head out for the day.  This BB Cream with SPF30+ (and yes it does smell a little like sunscreen but certainly not as overwhelming as some others I've previously tried) has a lightweight formula that I found glided and blended easily into my skin, leaving a natural looking coverage. This foundation features a Hyaluronic Acid gel-film which will instantly hydrate your skin, and combined with the anti-wrinkle peptide SNAP-8, also helps to reduce the look of wrinkles and fine lines. It also contains UVA and UVB filters, which provide essential protection from skin-damaging free radicals, Rosehip Oil and Green Tea Extracts to provide antioxidant protection, and Chamomile Extract and Tetrapeptide to combat redness and soothe the skin.

If you're in the market for some new skincare, and you're looking to try something new, here are a few products I've been loving lately that just might be what you're looking for.

Lancome Advanced Genifique Youth Activating Concentrate

This luxurious feeling serum from Lancome is made from a new and improved formula. Enriched with millions of probiotic fractions, including Yeast and Bifidus extract, these fractions help to increase the strength of your skin's barrier against environmental nasties, as well as improve its texture, firmness and radiance.

This serum has virtually no scent and I found a little goes a lonngggggg way (always love value for money). It took a minute for it to sink into my skin, but once it did, it was completely absorbed making it perfect for putting under makeup. If you're after a new serum, I recommend giving this one a go.

    Burt's Bees Rose Micellar Water

Who doesn't love a good micellar water! So refreshing and cleansing! This one from Burt's Bees has a nice rose scent to it and is nice and soothing on the skin. While it claims to also moisturise your skin, I skill put some moisturiser on after use to really ensure my face is hydrated.

I love using this water to help take off those bits of makeup, especially around my eyes, that may not have come off completely after cleansing and being alcohol free, it isn't harsh on your skin.

Burt's Bees Roe Micellar Face Wipes

A good face wipe is key to have on hand! Whether you just want to something to wipe on and refresh your face, or if you're being lazy like I can be at times, and you don't feel like doing a full cleanse but have some makeup and dirt you need to remove from your face after a full day of wear, and these ones from Burt's Bees are a winner!

They do have a slight rose scent, but nothing to overpowering, and they are made from repurposed cotton cloths. The micellar water helps to lift any dirt from your face without having to harshly rub your skin and the wipes are also non-comedogenic which means they are perfect all skin types, even those who are acenic. These leave my skin feeling soft and hydrated afterwards (no dryness here) which gives them a thumbs up in my book.

Give your skin a mini spa treatment in the comfort of your own home with the Get Even Cold-Pressed Peels Pads from Natural Serious. These pads allow you to give your face a very gentle peel, which essentially exfoliates your skin to help remove dead skin cells, while also hydrating and soothing the skin and helping to reduce signs of ageing. Containing pomegranate enzyme, skin-smoothing oleic, palmitic and linoleum fatty acids, as well as a patented anti-pollution blend of six anti-oxidants (pomegranate, goji berry, grape seed, green tea, red tea and white tea), your skin is in for a good time.

I found these had a very natural scent to them that wasn't to overpowering, making them very pleasant to use.

A few weeks ago, myself and the other Suki influencers were invited to take part in a full day photoshoot for Suki Hairdressing. I've never been on a real photoshoot before, but was excited to have the opportunity to be a part of it.

The day was a lot of fun, as my hairdresser Bek put together a number of awesome looks, including going old school and busting out a triple barrel curler for the occasion (since the shoot I've been dying to get my hands on one so I can recreate that hairstyle on the daily).

Our photographer for the day was the lovely and talented Matt Briggs, and my picture perfect makeup (which stayed in place even after throwing my hair in the ocean and having salty drops running down my face) was done by Andrea Black.

The photos are still on their way and I'll start sharing them as soon as I get my hands on them, but for now I have a bunch of behind the scenes shots to give you a sneak peek on what we got up to during the day.

Give your skin the TLC and pampering it deserves with some of these products.

There's nothing more annoying then after a week-long fight with that sore, red spot, just when you think it's all over, you find yourself left with a nice little dark reminder of what felt like a never-ending battle - well no more thanks to the Dermalogica AGE Bright Spot Fader. This guy works as a two-in-one treatment to both help reduce the appearance of any breakouts and also working to ensure there aren't any post-breakout marks left on your face. The product uses Salicylic Acid to help clear the pimples and then uses a combination of Niacinamide and Hexylresorcinol to reduce any marks and give your skin a nice, even tone.

Got some fine lines and wrinkles on your neck, chest or hands you're keen to see gone quickly, then check out the Instant Neck, Chest & Hand Left from Skin Doctors. This product aims to do just that and improve your skin texture over time. The product features three roller balls that you roll over the desired areas as you squeeze the tub, which gives a nice cool feeling. The product itself actually smells really good; a bit like how your hair would smell after you've been to the hairdresser and they use all the good, fancy products on it. While I could see a difference once the product had dried, I wasn't a big fan of the feeling I was left with. There was a tight, dry feeling with the product drying matte-like. I personally don't like anything feeling dry on my face, but if that type of sensation doesn't bother you, you might get along with this product.

This breakthrough product from Medik8 features the molecule retinyl retinoate - this guy helps to give you more even, youthful looking skin by reducing lines and wrinkles while improving the tone, texture and brightness of your skin. Retinyl retinoate is less irritating then retinol, which means this product can be used both day and night. With no parabens, no artificial fragrance, no alcohol and no pathalates, this product was also award the Presidential Award by the Korean Ministry of Health, so you know it's got to be good. You don't need a lot of product to get full face coverage and it sinks in quite quickly and leaves my skin feeling nice and soft. In terms of fragrance, there is a bit of a scent there; I don't really know how to describe it except that it smells how you would expect more clinical product to smell, but not in a bad way.

    NEW YORK - DAY 2

Our second day in New York was spent at Cooney Island.

After walking wayyyyy to much on day one, we spent the night resting our very sore feet and researching about the subway system. While reading about how it all works can make it seem very complicated and overwhelming, we found that essentially all you need to navigate it is Google Maps and remembering if you're heading Uptown or Downtown (this will help to make sure you're standing on the right side of the platform). Planning our trips the night before, we would screenshot the Google Map route to the various subway stations we needed to go and the directions provided; following this you pretty much can't go wrong. I think we got on the wrong train once, but we simply got off a few blocks away from where we planned to stop and just walked the rest.

Taking the subway out of the city and towards the beach provides for a scenic ride as you come out of the underground, view the outskirts of the city and watch the beach come in closer.

It was a scorcher day when we headed out and somehow we didn't even think to pack swimmers, but we still enjoyed the carnival/beach vibe, ate hotdogs and had our first taste of American sized portions when our larger then expected drinks were served up. As our feet were pretty sore from the first day of adventures, we were pretty content just sitting around people watching and enjoying some time out of the city and smelling the sea air.

After spending most of the morning out by the sea, we decided to head to Brooklyn Bridge and got off the subway just before it went into the city. Spending some time sitting in the shade of trees in a small park that runs along the water and sits right next to the bridge was certainly a bucket list moment - I think we could have just sat there forever watching people and taking a minute to soak in where we were. We didn't walk across the bridge (we'll save that one for another visit when our feet are in less pain), but we did spend time wandering the streets finding countless good angles to take photos of the bridge and just looking at all the shops in the surrounds.

Brooklyn is certainly an area we didn't get the chance to explore very much during our visit and is definitely a place we'll be taking some more time in on our return.

Returning to the city and walking the few blocks back from the subway station to our hotel, we discovered one of the main roads of the city had been turned into a sea of market stalls. Upon googling it later, we discovered the event was called Summer Streets - an annual event that allows residents and tourists to celebrate the city's most valuable public space, the streets, while also spreading an encouraging message to use more sustainable modes of transport, including walking and cycling (honestly, why anyone would want to drive in the city anyway is beyond me).

After a much needed nap, we decided to have a fairly quiet night and go out and see Times Square at night. Somehow it managed to feel even more packed then during the day, which made stopping for photos tricky, but it's certainly something you have to go and see one night if you're ever in New York - even just a walk through like we did to take it all is worth it.

If you've been reading and/or following this blog for a while, you'll know we're no stranger to a good Jurlique product around here. Every time I try something new from these guys, they continue to produce the goods and I'm yet to be disappointed by anything that has crossed my path. Today I've got a few more newer products to share from the Herbal Recovery range.

    Signature Moisturising Cream
One product I could never ever go without; a good moisturiser. This cream will help to smooth out lines and wrinkles, while using Cedar Bud extract to help increase the suppleness of your skin and help it to hold on to that oh so important moisturise. This cream also contains Citrus Unshiu Peel extract which helps to give your skin a more even tone. With a refreshing floral scent, while at first this feels like a thicker cream that might be best for night time use, as you rub and work it into the skin, it ends up feeling quite light weight and is a day time favourite for me.

    Signature Eye Gel
Now that I'm working pretty much seven days a week (though I love it), having some type of eye product handy is essential to help keep my under-eyes hydrated and to stop me from looking as tried as I might feel at times. This ultra light gel aims to brighten, firm and smooth your under-eyes and uses potent farm-grown botanicals to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The gel has a lovely rose scent and it dries super quickly, so it's perfect to use in the morning before putting on makeup.

    Signature Serum
Say goodbye to dull looking skin and soften those fine lines and wrinkles with the Signature Serum.
With the same lovely rose scent as the eye gel, a little goes a long way. The light weight formula sinks into the skin fairly quickly, so it's great for daytime use before putting on your makeup. The Red Clover Flower extract helps enhance the hydration provided by the Hyaluronic Acid and once absorbed, it creates a protective film on the surface of your skin to keep it looking and feeling fresh all day long.

Maybe she's born with it, maybe it's Suki Hairdressing.

After a trip to America and with the weather finally starting to warm up, my last few trips to Suki Hairdressing have been all about bringing back the blonde.

After letting the brown creep more and more into my hair for the winter season and to aid in the continuing effort to increase the thickness and overall quality of my hair, Bek (my hairdresser and blonde extraordinaire) and I decided it was time to lighten things up a little.

With my hair thicker and healthier than ever thanks to the magic of Suki, the idea of bringing more blonde back wasn't such a scary thought. We've still kept a darker base to my hair to make regrowth virtually undetectable and also to make my visits to the salon less frequent, which has also been a massive aid in fixing my hair as the less we bleach, obviously the better.

During my last few visits I've also been introduced to some killer new products. The most recent ones I've picked up, and which I already know are about to become staples in my routine are the YOUNG.AGAIN DRY CONDITIONER and the STAYING.ALIVE Leave-In Treatment, both from Kevin Murphy.  The Dry Conditioner is honestly a revolutionary product for second day hair, to me anyway. While I love the current dry shampoo I use from Arbonne and it's about the best one I've ever used, by it's nature, dry shampoo is drying, and when you have blonde ends like me which tend to dry out in between washes, products that just dry them further isn't exactly ideal. With the dry conditioner, you get the oil reducing benefits of a dry shampoo, but it also helps to add moisture to your hair (as a regular conditioner would) so you can have a clean scalp and nourished, healthy feeling and looking ends!

As soon as I saw the words Leave-In Treatment, I had a good feeling I was going to the like this product to. I don't really ever come across a bad leave-in treatment, however this one is next level. The soft feeling my hair had after having this used in my hair at the salon had me sold. I definitely recommend this stuff for any other blonde babes out there who use hair dryers and styling tools on their hair as often as I do (which is basically every day).

Two other styling products I've had the pleasure of using, and will be a big hit for my fans of beach hair without having to actually go swimming, are the HAIR RESORT and HAIR RESORT SPRAY, also from Kevin Murphy. Both products essentially do the same thing however the HAIR RESORT is more of a gel/liquid product that I find works best in damp hair - just scrunch in to get beachy waves that will stay in place all day. The spray virtually works the same however I find it best to use on dry hair.

When I found out Skinstitut had a makeup range, I had to try it!As a fan of their skincare, I was interested to see how their makeup would do. Currently stocked exclusively at Laser Clinics Australia, the range was born out of the need to provide something to patients who had undergone dermal treatments and wanted something for their face post-treatment, but that wouldn't be clogging or damaging to their healing skin.

The Skinstitut makeup range is essentially a hybrid between skincare and makeup, with each product in the range containing an advocated formula that combines cosmedical skincare ingredients with natural, triple milled minerals to give you something that you can wear after treatment and that will also help with the healing process.

While I haven't had any dermal treatments recently, knowing how good for your skin these products were, I had to put them to the test - for reference, my skin sits a little on the oiler side; the main problem I get and which I use to test how good any makeup is, especially foundation, is whether or not the product separates and/or goes shiny on my skin throughout the day, or if it can tough it out and manage to stay looking flawless.

    Pressed Mineral Foundation

This product is a 4-in-1 deal, offering concealer, foundation, sun protection and a finishing powder, so you only have to put one product on your face and your base is caked and ready to go. Unfortunately, for me, this was probably my least favourite product out of them all. While it applied really well and looked great during the first part of the day, as I looked in the mirror in the afternoon, while it hadn't majorly separated, it almost somehow looked cakier than it had when I first applied. I also feel like it had a bit more a glow/highlight effect to it than regular foundation which I was living for all over my face.

    Loose Mineral Foundation

This stuff is certainly one of my favourite picks from the range. Lately my skin hasn't been enjoying liquid foundation - its just been separating and looking super oily on my face for some reason, so I turned to this for a lighter option. This Mineral Foundation was the answer I needed - it manages to give my face an almost full coverage look, but while still looking very natural and by being able to use less product on my face, my skin isn't reacting as much with my makeup and staying put better throughout the day.

    High Definition Foundation

This was another one of my favourites from the range. While I'm not currently using liquid foundation, as mentioned above, I did give this a go a few times when my skin was being less of a pain in the butt and I found myself really liking. While I will say it doesn't hold in place quite as much as my coveted Chanel foundation, this stuff certainly sits in a close second place. I found this foundation, while still giving a full coverage, is more light weight then the Chanel foundation I always use, so is a perfect option for when I want something a bit less intense but still want coverage.

    BB Cream - Blemish Balancer

I've always been a bit on the fence when it comes to BB Creams - a lot of the ones I've tried in the past have either just given no coverage and sat more on the end of being a moisturiser than any sort of foundation, or they give coverage but the oil from my skin would seep though and seperate it all in no time. Still, I gave this product a go and I have to say I was pretty impressed. While it still wasn't my favourite of the lot, I feel like this is something that would be perfect if I was just ducking out somewhere and wasn't looking to be wearing makeup for an extended period of time. I also found, despite being a BB Cream, that it had pretty good coverage while remaining lightweight on the skin.

On the 1st August 2019, my partner and I flew out of the country and off to America, a trip I'd be waiting years to go on. Starting in New York, we travelled to Washington, Miami, New Orleans and lastly, Las Vegas.

I wanted to put together a little journal about my trip, the places we went and the things we saw, both as a series of commemorative posts for myself to come back to in years to come, but also to give you guys the low down on things to do, things to see and even some of the not-so-great things to be aware of if you ever find yourself in any of these American cities.

To start our trip, we spent five days in the New York - and we still didn't see it all! So, I figured I'd start the guide here.

    NEW YORK - DAY 1

To begin, I wanted to quickly mention where we stayed during out five days in the Big Apple. We rested our heads each night at Hotel Five44 - named for the street it's on. Our room was a downstairs room, so I can't speak for the rooms upstairs, but I did find the room a little dark as the one window we had looked into a court yard which was lined with tall buildings and therefore didn't allow for much sunlight to get in. It was great for getting to sleep at night (that and all the walking we did each day), but when we would come back to have a quick rest and get off our feet during the afternoon, it wasn't the prettiest place to stay. While I didn't mind it at all, and as we spent most of our time out of the room I wasn't overly fussed on the negative aspects of the room, we will probably find something with a bit more sunlight next time around, but if you're looking a cheaper option that is still not a bad place to get some shut eye, I would still recommend it - maybe ask for a room that isn't on the bottom floor if possible.

I always figured that our first day would be on foot, just wandering around and taking in where we were. Our hotel was located only a few blocks from Central Park so we made our way in that direction as we searched for coffee. As we walked the blocks, I instantly knew this would be a place I'd be coming back to one day - the amount of streets and shops and sights to see, it wasn't something we could get done, even in our five days here.

Just before we hit Central Park we walked into Columbus Circle. Columbus Circle is basically just a huge and heavily trafficked roundabout. Aside from being close to Central Park, the roundabout is also lined by a variety of high end shops and other commercial buildings.

After walking through Columbus Circle and finding a stand for a coffee and breakfast muffin just on the border of Central Park, we made our way into the place that would quickly become one of the top highlights of the whole trip.

As you step into Central Park, you will completely forget you're in the middle of a bustling city - you can't hear a single car, bus or truck as you make your way to the middle. You could literally wander around all day and probably still not see it all - there are so many areas to see, sit at and so many paths to take, it's kind of overwhelming. We ended up seeing about half of the park during our stay this time and I would definitely come back to just explore the other half.

If you ever have a day with not a lot to do and it's a nice out, nothing would be better than taking some food and setting up a picnic and spending a few hours just laying around. Also, if you happen to go at the right time of the year, they have some pretty good acts putting on small gigs in the park - so always do some goggling on what's on during your time there to make sure you don't miss something awesome.

Eventually finding our way out of Central Park, we choose a random direction in which to walk and kept exploring. As we wandered, we realised we were heading in the direction of the Empire State Building and decided to make our way there and tick another must-do item off our list. As we made our way there, we suddenly found ourselves in front of the famous New York Public Library and had to take a quick detour and head inside.

Going inside the Public Library is free. Some areas are roped off and only accessible for people who are actually there to use the library's resources, but you can still go inside most sections to have a little look - and yes, you can go and see that famous room with row after row of desks and the classic lamps that you've no doubt seen in all the movies. You can't wander the room unless you're there to sit and read, but there is a small roped of area just inside the door for you to go in, check it out and take a quick snap.

Then we made our way to the Empire State Building. Navigating the building is a pretty simple process, as you just follow the lines and roped off pathways to make your way to the top. In terms of crowds, at the time we went (on a weekday and a little bit after lunch time), the crowd wasn't anything to crazy. One part of the journey to the top which I thought was an awesome addition, was the elevator ride. As you wizz up level after level, the roof of the elevator plays a video of the construction of the building, taking you through the scaffolding and bare bones of each level as you make your way up.

Once at the top, as you make your way through the crowd and find yourself a viewing spot, I can definitely say the view is worth making your way up there for. There are a few different buildings you can choose to go up and see the city from above (such as the Rockefeller Centre) but I honestly feel like once you've been up one and seen the view, you've seen it all. One of the most spectacular views was definitely seeing Central Park from above and really getting a sense of just how huge it is!

Once we got back down to the bottom of the Empire State and back on the streets, my partner and I both agreed our feet were feeling pretty wrecked and it was time to make our way back to the hotel.

As we navigated back, we made our way through Times Square, which was only a couple of blocks from our hotel.

One thing to note about Times Square, whether you go day or night, it is always busy! Busy to the point it can be pretty hard to find a good spot to stop and get a few snaps, but I still highly recommend making your way there if you're ever in New York. I would also say try and go once during the day and once at night - it truly takes on another life at night (we went back at night on another day, so I'll post the photos of that in another post).

New York can feel a little overwhelming at first - there is so much to do and so much to see, you wonder how you'll get through it all and honestly, unless you're spending a couple of weeks there, you probably won't and you'll need to make your way back at some point. But, after a day of walking around the city and trying to take it all in, I loved the city and knew this was one place I would be coming back at some point.
