  • John Frieda Haul

Recently I received some goodies from the lovely people at John Frieda, so I thought I'd share with you these pieces and a little bit about what I thought of them.

As someone with bleached blonde hair I am all about purple toning products, and I was quite impressed with this Colour Refreshing Toner. I used this the day after I had my roots touched up to help combat just a little bit of the yellowish tone that was there, as well to give all my hair a bit of a whitening and brightening up. I also used it during my next wash to take my hair just another step whiter, and I was pretty impressed with how it handled. Basically you shampoo and condition your hair as normal and then you lather this stuff all over your head and let it sit for 3 - 5 minutes (I always go for the maximum time because I can't get enough white in my hair). My hair did feel a bit dry after I washed this out which left me worried, but once I brushed and dried my hair it didn't seem affected at all.

I don't generally use sea-salt spray because I just find my hair doesn't like it. I have one other sitting in my bathroom which I never use because I just don't get along with the texture that it leaves my hair. I know a lot of people love how their hair goes after getting out of the ocean, but I personally hate mine. I'm not sure if it's because I bleach it (probably) but it just goes all dreadlock-like and unmanageable instead of nice, salty curls. I made myself give this a go anyway because I thought maybe I'd change my mind, but I can't say I have. Now that doesn't mean this isn't a good product, in fact I think it's actually perfect because the ends of my hair where I sprayed it while it was still damp, did come up very similar to how they would if I'd dipped them in the ocean, so it does the job and I would recommend it if you love that look for your hair.

I haven't gotten around to trying this yet (I know, shame on me), but hear me out. Again I think it's because I colour my hair, but I find my hair does have a fair bit of volume on it's own when I blow dry it because it tends to be a little drier thanks to the bleach. However I am still keen to see how this one goes, so check back to see how I go with it.

I have tried so many purple shampoos and conditioners in my time, in fact part of me thinks I may have used these exact ones back when I first was getting serious about trying to whiten up my blonde hair. These days I tend to use a more blue-based shampoo rather than a purple base because I find that really gives me more a silver look, but that doesn't in anyway discredit these two beauties. If you're blonde and if you've got some nasty yellow tones you want to get rid of, these two together will surely do that job for you.

Also I have to give the conditioner a virtual and impossible high five. I'm sure I've mentioned this before, but my hair is stubborn when it comes to what conditioners it likes. It will either love something and my hair will be free of knots, or it will completely reject it and I will struggle to pull a brush through my hair when I get out of the shower. My hair seemed to like this purple one. It is quite a small bottle for me, because my hair loves to suck up all the moisture, so for me this probably won't last a super long time, but it sure does work.

Overall I have to say I'm a bit of a John Frieda fan. They have quality products that work pretty great, especially for those of us who are blonde and always on a mission to get our hair that shade lighter. They're also all super affordable products that are available all over the place, so if you're thinking about trying some out I would highly recommend giving them a go.

    1. I haven't loved any of the John Freida products I've tried (although I've only tried two) so I'm eager to hear your thoughts on these! That volumizing lotion sounds promising!

      1. Oh really! That's a shame but everybody's hair is different :) I think their shampoo and conditioners go down pretty well though :) xx.

    2. It's such a shame that you weren't too keen on the sea salt spray! I love them so I might give this one a go, the toner sounds nice too! x
