  • Not to long ago I did my first Netflix review/recommendation type post, and I'm finally back with another one. I'm a big documentary watcher so this here's another documentary for you guys to consider checking out - it's called The Fear of 13.

Basically this documentary goes through the story of a man who was wrongfully convicted; it seems more and more of these stories have been popping up since the release of Making a Murderer, which personally I think is good because I think if a justice system is not working and is wronging people it needs to be brought to light in the hope of bringing about change.

Anyway the really interesting part of this documentary is the whole story is told (and the only voice you hear throughout the documentary) is of the actual man himself who was wrongfully convicted; Nick Yarris; and I think it's Yarris' charisma and story-telling ability that really make this documentary so interesting to watch. I'm not going to give to much away about his story, but basically he runs through the timeline of his life both before, during and since his wrongful conviction.

If you're wondering about the name, it seems from the meaning of the word triskaidekaphobia, which is the phobia of the number 13, and was one of many words that Yarris taught himself while he was imprisoned.

If you click on the picture below you can check out a trailer for the documentary. If you've seen this, let me know you're thoughts on it!

Tomorrow I'm going to be jumping on a plane to head off to Bali for a little holiday. I'm going over with a bunch of my friends from Uni to celebrate finishing our five years at Uni and just spend some time together chilling out before we all go off into the world to do adult things. I thought I'd share some of the skincare and beauty items I'll be taking over to deal with the hot and humid climate.

A holiday in Bali basically consists of either swimming in the ocean or a pool, or walking around in the hot, humid and sweaty weather. This means that packing on makeup, even if going out at night, isn't really worth it because it will just sweat off your face, and this can also mean your face has some serious dirt build up during the day. So when it comes to packing beauty and skincare for the trip I stick to a light makeup routine but still take over most of my usual skincare.

    Beauty
Nivea Daily Essentials Tinted Moisturising Day Cream & Nivea Q10 Anti-Wrinkle CC Daily Moisturiser
I'll be taking both of these over with me. Being tinted moisturisers they give a lighter coverage, and particularly the CC (Colour Correcting) moisturiser will come in handy if I happen to get a little red from sunburn at any point on the trip.

    Rimmel Stay Matte Primer
With the heat and humidity a primer is a must!

    NARS Matte Eyeshadow - Blondie

MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation
While this is a heavier makeup product, this stuff is the best I own for keeping oil and shine at bay. So to combat that in the hot weather a little dust of this over my face should be perfect.

    Beauty Essentials Bronzer

    Ardell Gel Fiber - Taupe

    e.l.f Mineral Infused Mascara

Essence Lash and Brow Gel Mascara

Essence All Eyes on Me Waterproof Mascara
Because of course when it's hot, sweaty and you're likely to just want to throw yourself in a pool of water on a minutes notice to cool down, waterproof mascara is a must.

    Skincare
Sukin Oil Balancing Mattifying Facial Moisturiser
Any product with the word matte in it was 100% coming along with me, particularly for any day time skincare needs.

    Dermalogica Oil Free Matte spf30
Of course I'll be taking along a bigger bottle of sunscreen than this, but this stuff is perfect for your face because it doesn't leave it looking oily (see me rave more about it here, here and here).

    Sensodyne Repair and Protect Toothpaste
Of course everyone is going to pack toothpaste when they travel, and I know that this really doesn't fit into the skincare category, however I wanted to include this product to mention the size - it's perfect for travel. I was actually given this last time I went to my dentist because this type of toothpaste in particular is perfect for my teeth needs - so if you're making a trip to the dentist soon and you're able to get your hands on some smaller sample sizes, they're perfect to hold on to for any trips. If you don't plan on heading to the dentist any time soon (and I don't blame you) I'm sure a little scour of the Internet would find you something similar.

The amazing people from over at BHAVE Hair sent me an amazing box of goodies with a  range of their products. I've been testing them out and wanted to share with you guys what the go is with them all.

Just quickly, if you haven't heard of bhave before, their an awesome Australian owned and operated haircare brand. They've got everything to wash your hair, tone your hair if you'e a blonde like me, and keep it healthy and hydrated. They're actually the first Australian brand to use natural keratin technology in their products, which is basically the magic ingredient which leaves your hair feeling bomb. Aside from that, they also DON'T test on animals, have NO parabens in any of their products and use certified organic ingredients - winning on every level.

I've already raved about this product in my October Favourites, so you know I'm a bit of a fan of this stuff. This is basically a leave-in cream that will help to condition, protect and keep your hair under control. I use this once I've washed my hair, brushed it and just before I'm going to dry it. You only need a little blob of this stuff to run through the bottom section of your hair. I advise only using a small bit, only putting through the ends of your hair and giving it a dry afterwards. The first time I used it I threw on way to much all over my head and then tried to let it dry naturally - I used it all wrong and it left my hair less than stunning. But I've nailed how to use it now and it's a God send. And the best part; it has an awesome coconut scent which just screams summer and good vibes.

Another one that made it into the favourites, and for good reason. I've been putting oil on the ends of my hair for a while now to help keep my coloured ends from splitting and turning into a horrible-looking nightmare. I've been around the block trying some oils, so it doesn't take me long to know if I'm onto a winner or not - this one is a WINNER. First thing to note is it smells like bloody fairy floss! I don't know how but it's amazing! I put a small pump of this on the ends of my hair once I'm completely done using any heat on it and I've noticed a big difference - my ends don't get super dry and they don't split as much anymore.

Anything that claims to help split ends I'm all over it like a rash. The directions say to use this after you've completely finished styling your hair, like you would an oil, but I also like to throw some in while my hair is towel dry, before I hit it with the blow dryer. I think this in combination with some other products has certainly decreased my regularly of split ends, and I've found myself needing to trim off the ends less. Also the packaging of this one is so cool, you just push the top and it pumps out the perfect amount.

I love giving my hair a good treatment, so I was excited to try this product out. I prefer to do my treatments just before I'm about to give my hair a wash, so I lathered this over my dry hair and let it sit for maybe 20 minutes or so (basically until I get sick of sitting with it in and decide I want to wash it out) and followed with my normal washing routine. When I tested this I had recently used a new hair colouring product which was a little more drying on my hair than I was use to, so my hair was still a little dry after using this masque, but it was certainly improved. Also it smells like coconuts and makes me think of summer which always makes me happy,

    Gunpowder Matt Styling Dust
I'd never used a product like this before because I worried this would leave my scalp super dry and knotty thanks to my coloured blonde hair - but I was pleasantly surprised. I still find this product so funny and interesting to use. Basically you pump a little bit onto your roots (out of the pump will fall bits of white dust) which you then massage into your scalp to give your mane some volume. The texture of the product in your hair is something I struggle to get use to. As someone who plays with their hair a lot and often runs fingers through the top of it numerous times throughout the day to push my growing-out bangs back, the powder stops the fingers from gliding through so easily. This had me worried that it would leave my hair feeling gross and knotty the next day, but surprisingly it was pretty good. I just ran a brush through my hair to brush out the remainder and I was good to go again.

I actually just used this combination the other night when washing my hair and I was impressed. It's been so long since I've used two of the same branded products from the same line in my hair washing routine, I'm usually using all different types of brands. This stuff actually left my hair super soft and also smelling so good long after my hair dried.

When I opened the bottle and squeezed out the product, it came out a nice, deep purple colour, so I had hope this stuff would work. I tend to use more blue-based shampoos these days to achieve a real silver/white look, but this stuff still certainly worked for keeping any brassy tones out of my hair. It won't give you an ultra white look, but there will certainly not be any tacky, terrible looking yellow left in your hair. It also didn't leave my hair super dry or anything which is always a risk with purple shampoos, so put a tick in that box.

Again another two products I was pretty impressed with. They left my hair smooth and fairly knot free after washing, so I'm happy to incorporate these into my hair washing routine in the future.

Who doesn't enjoy a good night of pampering themselves? If you just answered 'me' to that question, sorry we can't be friends anymore. But seriously, some nights I want nothing more than to sit on the couch, catch up on some TV series or a documentary on Netflix I've been dying to watch while giving myself a little pamper night. It can also be a fun thing to do with your friends when going out to town and getting hammered just isn't sparking your interest. I also love trying out new skincare and haircare products, particularly things like face masks and treatments; it always leaves me feeling super refreshed and sort of glamorous afterwards. If this has sparked your interest and you want to treat yourself some night soon, or you're planning on having a fun night in with your friends, I've got a couple of products to recommend.

I have tried so many Biore products over the years and I can't sing their praises enough; no bad experience comes to mind when I think of them. Not only do they have a huge range of skincare products, they are also super affordable and so easy to get your hands on; I tend to find them in almost every supermarket or drugstore I walk in to; so they're perfect if you're wanting to have a pamper night and don't want to blow the bank.

A couple of my favourite products are the Biore Deep Cleansing Pore Strips and the Self-Heating One Minute Mask. The Deep Cleansing Pore Strips were the first pore strips I used and were honestly the only ones I could find for a long time. When used correctly these babies really pull the crap out of the pores on and around your nose. I find the most effective way to use them is to the take a really warm cloth and hold it over your nose to open up your pores. Then put the strip on and really make sure it is stuck into all the crevasses of your nose and then pat over the strip with the same damp cloth. Wait till its completely dry and harden and then pull it off from the bottom up. There is something so weirdly satisfying about seeing all the little specks of dirt pulled out from your nose even though it's probably quite gross.

The Self-Heating One Minute Mask is quite fun and intrigued me the first time I used one. You basically put the product onto your face and massage it in for about a minute. You'll feel it heat up; it doesn't getting super hot, just quite warm, and it's the funniest feeling the first time you use it. I like to then let it sit just for another couple of minutes and then wipe it off.

Pamper nights don't just have to mean putting on face masks, you can treat your hair as well. As someone who has coloured blonde hair, I love putting a nice treatment in my hair and letting it sit. You can throw a hair mask on first and let it sit while you do your skincare, and then wash it all off in one go. One hair treatment I'd recommend is Bambi & Sammi. If you wanna find out more about it and my experience with it click here; also the girls who run the brand are super lovely, which is even more incentive to support them.

Going back to skincare, if you really want to treat yourself consider checking out the Atom Ghassoul Clay Mask. This stuff is a bit more expensive than the Biore products, but if you really want a deep detoxing mask, this is one to consider checking out. You can find out more about my experience with it here. If you're having a night with your friends you could split the price of this mask between all of you to make it super cheap.
