  • I've got a couple of perfumes floating around my place at the moment, so I wanted to share some of them with you and my thoughts on them - and maybe inspire you to find your next scent.

I've mentioned this before, but one of the things I just love about this brand is all the beautiful quotes they put all other their products and packaging (which is why I just had to include a seperate picture of the packaging here). This one has quite a fresh, clean and feminine scent to it, so it would be perfect for wearing during the day. I guess I would say that as it settles it smells a little bit like soap ... which I don't know if I love or hate. It's not an old grandma, type of soap scent, more like you've just washed your hands clean scent. I think I'm a bit on the fence with this one, but I'd certainly give it a crack a few times.

This one has a scent that I don't think I would have automatically reached for before giving it a go, but it's grown on me. This perfume has notes of green tea, peony, edamame and cederwood, so it's got a more sophisticated smell than the Philosophy one, but it's not so overpowering that you can't wear it during the day. I noticed this one lingers around and stays smelling strong for a bit longer than the Philosophy one as well.

If you've seen my recent favourites post (if not stop reading and go check it out here <<) than you already know I'm quite a fan of this one. I chat more about it in my favourites post, so you can head there to see what I think about it, but generally I think it has the next level of sophistication to the Balenciaga Skin perfume, but it still isn't so overpowering that you can't rock it during daylight hours - I certainly do on the regular.

    So which is my favourite?
I think all three have quite different scents about them, but I think for my personal taste I'd have to lean towards the Balenciaga scents, in particular the Paris, 10 Avenue George V. That doesn't mean I won't ever wear the Philosophy one, I'm sure I'll rock it at some stage, but I think I'm definitely inclined to reach for a Balenciaga to start my day.

October has waved its goodbyes and my birthday month is here (it's on Friday actually!), so here's what I loved in the month just gone.

I have to give a major shoutout to these two products which I've incorporated into my hair routine this month. When I use both of these products after I wash my hair and style it, my hair is left feeling so smooth, healthy and thick. As someone with coloured blonde hair, any products that get my hair feeling that way must be damn good.

I put the Leave-In Creme in the bottom section of my hair after I've brushed it through and while it's still wet, and then dry my hair. I then apply the Riot Control Oil to my ends after I finished drying, straightening and doing all my styling (because it's never really a good idea to apply to heat your hair if you've put an oil in it). Together these two make an beautiful kick-ass combo for healthy looking locks. I actually received a generously big package of a bunch of their products, so keep your eyes peeled for a more in-depth chat about these products and some others soon.

This one has been in my makeup rotation for a little while, but with the warm weather coming back, I've found myself reaching more and more for this lately to add a little bit of a bronzy glow to my look. I love this stuff because it's really buildable, so you can have a very subtle glow, or go for something a bit more dramatic. I know it says 'shimmering' in the name, which can turn some people off, but I have to say I've never really noticed it putting any sort of glitter or shimmer on my face - so if you're not a fan of that you'll probably love this stuff - but if you were aiming to have your face shimmering like a goddess then maybe try something else.

Maybelline Vivd Matte Liquid Lip Colour (Rebel Red | Nude Thrill)
I did a little review on these lip products and I loved them so much I had to include them as a favourite, particularly these two colours. Now don't get me wrong, I still think the other dark purple colour I own is amazeballs, but this month I found myself reaching for these two colours on the few occasions I did pop something on my lips. To find out more about how they wear and all that good stuff, check out my original post here.

    VOSS Water
I've always thought VOSS' big glass bottles were so stylish and cool - but maybe not always the most practical to carry out without constant fears of shattering glass. Recently I received a box of their newest bottles and I love them. They're about half the size of the original ones and made from a plastic material (yet still look sleek to carry around), so they're much more practical and I've had one with me nearly everywhere I go this month.

Balenciaga Paris, 10 Avenue George V
This has been my go-to, daily perfume of late. This perfume has a sophisticated scent to it, but one that isn't so overpowering that it can't be worn during the day. It feels grown up and sophisticated, but at the same time it smells light and has a bit of a fresh, floral scent to it. Basically it's perfect for putting on at the start of your day to make you motivated and empowered to take on whatever comes your way. I have another post in the works that will feature this sweet smelling number, so be sure to keep an eye out for that.

Philosophy Renewed Hope in a Jar Night
I had always wanted to try some Philosophy products - not only is their packaging awesome and I can't get over how each product has a cute little saying on it to motivate you or brighten up your day - but people have always sung praises for their stuff; and now I know why.  This stuff is a bit thicker than any of their day moisturisers (if you want more info about them keep your eyes peeled for a blog post soon) which is exactly what you what, but it's not so heavy that I'm left feeling oily and like I need to clean my face again (which I've pretty sensitive to). This stuff leaves my face feeling so soft both after it sinks into my skin and the next morning - so big thumbs up over here for this one.

    Dermalogica Oil Free Matte SPF30
I've raved about this product multiple times on my blog already, both here and here, and also how I apply this under my makeup in the morning, so it's really no shocker that this made it onto the favourites list this month. To find out more about it be sure to check out those previous posts, but I can tell you this is a 10/10 product.

Philosophy 'Take a Deep Breath' Oxygenating Gel Cream
Safe to say I've become a bit of a Philosophy product fan. I also had a quick chat about why I love this stuff so much here << so be sure to check it and also find out a little bit more about your eyeball area.

People seem to think that writing isn't worth anything!

Go on any number of freelance writing websites and you'll see what I mean within seconds. People offer 2 cents per word, or a couple of dollars for articles thousands of words long.

As someone who loves to write and would love to make a career out of freelance writing, this makes me so angry because when people offer jobs at these stupidly low rates, it makes it impossible.

The reason people are able to put ads up with these ridiculous pay rates is because people accept them. Now I understand if you are someone who is just starting out in their writing career that you might take these. You might take them because you're learning and it can feel scary and like to much pressure if you're new and inexperienced and yet someone is offering you a large amount of money for your words - so you start small and as you gain experience and feel more worthy, you'll start taking on more expensive work.

But generally that's all you're going to get when you're offering such low rates for high amounts of work. Maybe every now and then you'll get the odd experienced writer who just really needs a little bit of extra cash; but that's not going to be the norm. What I'm sure they'll be getting instead is people who are inexperienced and therefore can't, at this point in their career, provide you with super high quality work in short periods of time. Either that or you're getting experienced people who know they aren't getting paid shit for this so put little to no effort in and give you exactly what you would have gotten from that inexperienced person anyway.

When I see people offering such little money, it makes me feel like this skill of writing isn't valued; these people obviously think that writing words and sentences isn't a valid skill, it isn't a hard skill and therefore it's not worth much. First of all, when you're asking someone to write thousands of word that can take a bloody long time, especially if you work as a freelancer because you're generally taking on work about topic areas or subjects you're not overly familiar with. This means you'll also need to spend time researching (another awesome skill most freelancers have which I'm not sure people realise).

As I mentioned, when people offer such low rates it makes me feel like these people think writing isn't all that hard - question; if it's so easy, if it's worth so little to you, why aren't you just doing it yourself? Why aren't all these people doing it themselves? Answer; because they can't! Because it's actually not that easy to sit down, sometimes with a topic you know little about, and smash out a few thousand words and pages of sentences, and smash it out in a reasonable time frame, if not relatively quick. It's not fucking easy, we make it look easy because it's what we do, it's our skill, our passion that we've worked on to build up to a point that it looks like nothing. The fact it's not so easy is proven to me by the hundreds of ads out there looking for people to write.

The number of people looking for writers in the world shows that freelance writing should be entirely possible as a career, that there is the demand for it - what makes it so damn impossible to do for a living is because people want to offer cents, which just isn't sustainable for living.

So if you're someone who is looking for a freelance writer and you're putting your ad together and seeing all these people offer crumbs in exchange for work and you're thinking you should offer a similar rate, just don't! Stop making the prospect of a writing career so damn hard and actually open yourself up to receiving good quality work. I know parting with money is never a fun time, but to all those looking for the skills of a writer, 1; I'M AVAILABLE FOR HIRE!, and 2; put up a decent rate and I promise you'll attract a much more motivated and talented pool of writers.

    Rant over x.
